A Tea Ceremony As A Part of Slow Living
By. Dr Nicole Garner Scott (@BreatheInYoga)
A tea ceremony is a time for slowing down to connect, mindfulness, setting intentions, and as I like to say 'meditation in movement'. At this space in my life, I create environments as ways to protect my peace and to participate in a slow living way of life.
I remember reading about Slow Living and from the Slow Movement and the description resonated with me on such a deep level. "It is a cultural revolution against the notion that faster is always better. The Slow philosophy is not about doing everything at a snail’s pace. It’s about seeking to do everything at the right speed. Savoring the hours and minutes rather than just counting them. Doing everything as well as possible, instead of as fast as possible. It’s about quality over quantity in everything from work to food to parenting."
I find incorporating tea ceremonies as a constant ritual in my life creates a very grounding and centering feeling as well as a way to breathe. It always gives way to creating beauty and a moment of luxury in my life. Luxury not in the form of materialism but activating my senses and reminding myself that I am worthy of such luxury. Luxury is our natural state and abundance is our birthright. You deserve all the good the world has to offer, with this in mind know that when you elevate the view of yourself you start to elevate the quality of your life. You are a treasured being, worthy of life's pleasures and abundance. Practice living luxury today, take some time to do something for yourself - try practicing a tea ceremony.
Practicing sitting in silence with several bowls of tea and connect with my deeper self and slow my mind. 1. Selecting your healing herbs for what you need. In this tea ceremony, I tapped into the four elements, and fire resonated with me. So I chose a Kenyan Chai for its warming spices and a mix of lavender, chamomile, lemongrass, holy basil, and a few others for their healing properties.

2. Cleanse your space around you and set the area for your peace and high vibration. I try to do this in nature as much as possible

3. Choose your teapot and bowls to use in your tea ritual

4. Use purified water, heat it, and right before it boils pour it over the loose leaves and let it brew. Let yourself melt into the act of this moment

5. You can choose to do a tea ceremony with just yourself or sharing space with others. Strain the tea, smell the scent, let the steam grace your face, practice a slow
controlled breath, bask in the silence, and set your intention with each sip
